Memes Kill

Third album in 3 months.  This isn't all of it.  There are four songs left to upload.

I recently became irritable about a total lack of any positive return from releasing every song I ever made under Creative Commons.  After sleeping on it I decided that sequestering all the music I made, just in case I somehow traveled to a place with record labels  and then magically got a contract to release the music, was stupid.  If I were to ever find myself with a record company executive, they would ink the sweetest deal ever, and I would make new music to fulfill the contract.  Even at the slowest speeds imaginary I still couldn't take a month to make an album, and that includes recording every sample from scratch.

As far as the imaginary deal I would like:  I just want to make people dance.  I absolutely don't care about money.  I make almost everything with dance in mind.  Some of it is isn't optimum for dance in its current form, because without a contract to get copies to clubs and DJ's, releasing larger, bulkier versions made for dance halls takes a lot better connection to upload than the WiFi I have had for a good while now (it often just gives up on uploads).  I also think the much larger files may deter some people from downloading.  In cringe-worthy fashion, some great dance tunes come out of here in abridged form.  It should be a crime.

Finally, with regard to lagging interest in songs uploaded to soundcloud, I have two things to say.  One, I filled up my primary account many times, and every time it bumped one of the really good songs I did in 2009-10.  I finally made a new account (which is almost full), but none of the followers from the old account transfer to a new account.  Nobody who just happened to know where to look knows where to find the music anymore.  It's problematic, but should have been foreseen long ago.  To counter this problem, my second point states the obvious, what I should have done in 2002:  Make a YouTube account.  Archive.org holds a copy of every song I ever uploaded, but archive only sees a fraction of the traffic YouTube sees.  So instead of getting mad at the world and going home with my toys, I will move forward sharing music at a new location and with renewed determination.

I also won't be uploading any shortened versions of new songs.  If it can't make people rage, then it needs to go in the garbage.  And if it can make people rage, then it sure as hell needs to be in the version that will do it.  This all started because of crappy WiFi.   I am sick to my stomach that instead of waiting for a good connection I abbreviated jams.  Never again.

Update:  One song added.  It's a trap! Let's go!

Kensho@280BPM

This song was originally composed at this much faster tempo.  The slow version of the song only came into existence because of a software glitch.  Surprisingly, the slow version did not sound bad, and so it was saved from eternal deletion.  Here's the original.

Back from the Dead

The new album concludes with the release of the title track, track number 13.  The song represents literally hundreds of hours of work.  There's nothing prepared or automated about what I do. I make kits. I don't cheat in any way.  This is one hundred percent hand composed sequencing.  The end.

Life After Death

Song Twelve of Back from the Dead. This leaves the title song.  Finished this last night after a marathon composing session, forgot to post here.

Semi Final

https://soundcloud.com/whitnall/void-beyond-the-veil and https://soundcloud.com/whitnall/light-beyond-the-veil   Two more songs left to finish the album.  They will both most definitely will be 12 minutes minimum WITH lyrics.  I would have written and performed lyrics for everything. I have stage fright so bad I am paralyzed by a microphone.  C'est la vie.  I'll do it for this album though.

Ashes to Ashes [Semi Mix]

Song Nine of Back from the Dead.  I should have made it much longer, since I was heavily into the jam.  It just kills me to compose too long though.

Autopsy Cold [Version Two]

Song seven, re-released.  It had 8 notes that bothered me.  So I remixed it, made it longer and re-uploaded it. And here it is.

I was going back to writing the new American novel today.  This album needs more immediate attention than the book does right now.  The novel isn't going to be finished any time soon.  It also may cost a good bit to read when it is finished, whereas I feel very strongly about sharing music.

Lethal Laboratory

Song Four of Back from the Dead.

Partially Written

The phrase "partially written" could apply to a huge number of things I started in the past.  In this case it refers to a new book I am working on.  Book One is written, although I am still editing.  The novel is likely to be 15 times longer than Book One.

None of this new novel will be posted, unless all of it gets posted.  I have yet to decide whether or not to sell it.  I am 64 pages into it, however.  Finishing the work seems a lot more important than the title, or what to do when it's finished.

A friend is also helping me understand a more modern approach to presentation of content. It's my hope to have a new website up and running by the time the novel is finished.  Between now and then I am releasing music, to make it clear I haven't stopped being an artist.  Death is probably the only thing that could stop me.

The Wrong God

Song Three of Back from the Dead features a couple of samples from the UK series skins, and also from the Japanese animated series Parasyte. I attempted a different direction than normal, and I didn't like it, so I ended the son quite earlier than I had intended to.  I still haven't released any new hard hitting, ultra memorable and catchy break beats.  I am saving all the best stuff for this weekend.

Wedges of PI

EARLY Thanksgiving morning, Song Two

Wiyrd

Album:  Back from the Dead.  The title says it all.  This is my first release in over two years after a devastating car wreck.  This is a rough, minimal track uploaded at low quality, because uploading anything sizable on this public Wi-Fi was time prohibitive.  The full wall of sound track will be released the day after Thanksgiving in FLAC.

Survival

The resident writer and musician survived another of nature's assassination attempts.  One can expect a few problems when having epidural abscesses, meningitis and endocarditis at once, and this case fits that bill.  At this point my arms can't be picked up above chest level, and moving them hurts, to go with the mind numbing back pain and sciatica that was already in effect. Not to mention the new thing I discovered spondylolisthesis has to offer, which is dropped foot (ojoy).  But I am still alive, and so is this site.

There won't be any new music for quite some time.  The resources all evaporated in the face of physical adversity.  Until I breathe no more, however, there will always be a plan for new creations to be brought forth again.

The blog will be devoted solely to writing until such time as I can set up music production again.  This is a good thing.  I owe the world a good novel, or, well, a novel that I feel is worthy of the world.  Of the novels I have written so far, none of them fit that bill in my opinion.  It is very nearly time for me to put one of those out, however, and so expect that.

I remain your devoted observer and fan, oh you people of the world.  Nothing fascinates me more than humans and human culture.  While I may have taken several steps closer to death, and become even more of a junkie than I was before (if that's possible), that does not change my admiration for the insanity and majesty that is homo sapiens.  Carry on, carry on.

Nan O.

This song concludes "A Null Leak Age."  Work on the next album is well underway.  26 years later than ideal, my new music will feature lyrics and vocals.  That's not to say there will be ballads and love songs, as anyone who knows me would find as laughable as I do, just that my poetry will become a part of the music.

"A Null Leak Age" Continues

The Overnodes

I have three more songs left in this album.  Two of them are within an hour of completion, but the fourth will take more work.  After that my only plan is to keep on keeping on.  Maybe I will do the whole vocal thing, since I am really a writer and my music has been sorely lacking in words.  All I have to do is overcome my hatred of my own voice...

Update:
I checked this out a little while ago.  It has digital artifacts and mid-ranges that get way too high in the first 2 minutes.  It's pretty crappy the way it is.  The last few minutes are okay, but I am disappointed I let it slip through this way.  When I get back to the production computer it will be easy to fix.  It's too bad I can't do it right now.  (Tuesday, December 16)
